Healthy Eyes. Healthy Lives.

"The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light." - Matthew 6:22 NLT

Have you ever wondered why Matthew 6:22 is there? It kind of seems out of place when you read Matthew 6:19-34 as Jesus teaches about money and possessions.

In the middle of all of that, there's this verse about "the eye", and our eyes being healthy. It doesn't seem like it fits.

Until we understand that "the eye" is about our FOCUS.

What does this mean for us as we seek to run our businesses in a way that is pleasing to God? Simply put, what we focus on will ultimately determine our actions.

Focusing on God

If we are focusing on God and His will for our lives and businesses, we will be filled with light, and our actions will reflect that.

We will make decisions that are in line with God's values and principles.

We will treat our employees and customers with love and respect.

We will be honest and fair in all of our business dealings.

Focusing on Worldly Things

On the other hand, if we are focusing on worldly things, such as wealth and success at any cost, our actions will reflect that as well.

We may be tempted to cut corners, mistreat those around us, or prioritize our own gain above the well-being of others.

That's why Matthew 6:22 fits right in with the verses that precede and follow it about money and possessions.

As business leaders, it is important that we keep our focus on God and His will for our lives and the companies He entrusts us to lead. This means regularly seeking His guidance and wisdom, and being open to His leading in the decisions we make. It also means being willing to let go of our own desires and plans in favor of what He has in store for us.

(Belonging to an FCCI Group is a great way to seek that guidance and wisdom, and to get wise input on decisions.)

By keeping our focus on God, we can be confident that we are doing business His way, and that our actions will be guided by His light and love.

May we all strive to be like the good and faithful servant in Matthew 25, who "was entrusted with his master's money, and he used it wisely."

May our businesses be a reflection of our love for God and His kingdom.
