Seeking Wisdom for the Christian Business Leader: Proverbs 1
Proverbs 1 shows us it is important to not only focus on the success of our businesses, but also to remember the importance of living a life that is guided by God's wisdom.
Proverbs 1 teaches us about the value of wisdom and the importance of seeking it out. The chapter begins by saying, "The proverbs of Solomon, David's son, king of Israel: to know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity; to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth" (Proverbs 1:1-4). Here, we see that wisdom is not just a random collection of knowledge, but rather it is a tool that can help us live lives that are just and right.
Proverbs 1 is a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking wisdom and living a life that is guided by God's guidance.
But seeking wisdom is not always easy. Proverbs 1:20-22 warns us, "Wisdom cries aloud in the street, in the markets she raises her voice; at the head of the noisy streets she cries out; at the entrance of the city gates she speaks: 'How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple? How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing and fools hate knowledge?'" Wisdom is all around us, but we must be willing to listen and learn. We must be open to instruction and willing to put in the effort to seek it out.
As Christian business leaders, we are called to not only be successful in our business endeavors, but also to use our influence and resources to make a positive impact in the world (FCCI's vision: Transforming the world through Christ, one company leader at a time!)
Proverbs 1:29-31 reminds us of this, saying, "Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord, would have none of my counsel and despised all my reproof, therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way, and have their fill of their own devices." In other words, if we reject wisdom and refuse to follow God's guidance, we will ultimately suffer the consequences of our actions.
Proverbs 1 is a powerful reminder of the importance of seeking wisdom and living a life that is guided by God's guidance.
As Christian business leaders, it is our responsibility to not only strive for success in our businesses, but also to use our influence and resources to make a positive impact in the world. Let's remember to always seek out wisdom and follow God's guidance in all that we do.
